The plot by the out-going Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to foist his son-inlaw, Chief Uche Nwosu on Imo State , as his successor in 2019, which has been tearing his party the All Progressive Congress APC, in Imo State and the LGA, has arrived Ngor Okpala LGA.
Trumpeta can authoritatively report that two strong members of APC in Ngor Okpala LGA, Dr TOE Ekechi and Okenze Sylverter Obinna are now speaking from various Camp’s of APC in the LGA.
It would be recalled that Dr Ekechi and some members of APC in Imo State had gathered in his palatial residence, in Umuoye, Imerienwe, Ngor Okpala LGA, where they resisted the endorsement of Uche Nwosu as been carried out by some LGAs in the State, stating that such an exercise does not exist in APC constitution.
The Group which called itself APC Restoration Group, said that only a party primary, carried out by APC will produce the Governorship candidate of the party, and not a “leprous endorsement”.
However, hardly had the Ekechi Group ended their meeting, whose communiqué went viral, than Okenze Sylvester Obinna and a few other APC members gathered and gave a counter release that Owerri people are in support of Uche Nwosu’s Governorship ambition. Since Okenze Obinna made their decisions known, a deluge of criticisms have trailed their outing as many see the Group as saboteurs to Owerri course, even as the Ekechi Group gets the thump up.
Following this development, Ngor Okpala APC has been in confusion as the members find themselves in a quagmire between which Group to identify with now.
But Trumpeta learnt that Ekechi is having the upper hand, as majority of APC members from Ngor Okpala stand behind the APC Restoration Group.
Those who spoke to Trumpeta said that Okenze Obinna has a few followers as he just joined APC, unlike TOE Ekechi who has been in APC since its inception and has been funding the party in Ngor Okpala.
One of the sources said that Gov Okorocha went to recall Okenze Obinna who is said to be on suspension, to speak in support of Uche Nwosu’s Governorship ambition which many see as an affront against Imo people, and especially APC members of Owerri zone extraction.
Meanwhile, the Governor Okorocha also used the opportunity to reaffirm the position of Chief Ifeanyi Eke as the choice of Chief Chidi Ibe of Chief Cletus Onwuegbule.
Reacting over the development over the telephone, a chieftain of APC in Ahiazu Mbaise Chief Adauctus Onuoha corroborated the story, saying that it happened in his presence.
Chief Onuoha further advocated for the expulsion of Chief Onwuegbule from the party. Insisting that he is promoting factions in the APC Ahiazu Local Government even when he woefully failed in his booth during the 2015 general elections.
