A five – day workshop on endoscopic surgery titled Integrated Minimal Access Surgery Workshop aimed at enlightening health workers and the general public on advance, and modern potentials and techniques in surgery, will end today at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri, the workshop is organised by FMC in partnership with JNCI, OLYMPUS, DIMSAL, EMZOR, ASTRA and ZENECA investments United.
In his address, Dr (Mrs) Angela Uwakwem the Medical Director of FMC lauded the new techniques which she said will reduced patient inconveniences, damage to surrounding tissues/organs and fasten recovery rate, as obtain in developed/western world/countries.
The special guest on the opening ceremony, Prof Chudi Uwazuruike, member representing Okigwe South federal constituency at the National Assembly, declaring the workshops open, enjoined the doctors and other health workers to embraces the new technology, undergo training and retraining in order to achieve the aim of the workshop. The learned house member, use the opportunity to comment on his Social Security Bill at the House/which is aimed at resolving the hardship of accessibility to medical facilities through social security mechanism, better and accessible health system and cash flow.
Dr. Anyaeze Chineme, planning committee chairman, earlier in his address praised the leadership of Dr. Mrs Uwakwem for all the transformations in the institution which include capacity building, equipment upgrade and improved healthcare delivery, he believed that the workshop will provide a plat form to train more specialist in endoscopic surgery techniques, to save life with less or no stress.
The workshop was attended by medical and health workers from different part of the country.
