Reactions have continued to trail the pulling down of Ellen Johnson -Sirleaf road sign post allegedly pulled down by people suspected to be agents of the opposition party in Imo state as stakeholders in the state, have advised the government to engage the service of professionals and start looking for a solution.
Trumpeta reporter who paid a visit to the newly commissioned road that begins from Amakohia by Rapour junction and ends at the popular Onitsha Road by DSS office near Irette police station gathered that the sign post was poorly constructed by the contractor handling it, just as some blamed it on lack of supervision and proper monitoring.
A fellow of the Nigeria Institute of Structural Engineers, Mr.Stanley Emeana, while reacting on the ugly development was not happy that, “we have numerous failed projects in Imo and we as a professional body, is calling on the state government to liaise with us to find a lasting solution to these problems.
The only solution is to take remedial action by subjecting them to integrity test to ensure safety of the masses.” he averred.
Some who spoke to Trumpeta in Owerri, argued that indigenous engineers should be invoved and given the chance to correct their mistakes, just as some blamed it on lack of supervision and proper monitoring.
Trumpeta was reliably informed that contractor was responsible for the destructed sign post, saying that the rescue mission government should patronize professionals not quark’s.
Meanwhile Special Adviser to Imo State Government on Social Media, Hon.Mrs Noel Iheme, former Owerri North TC Chairman salvos at the opposition for using the social media to spread falsehood in the State, saying Rescue Mission Government will waste no further energy doing so in the future.
Hon .Iheme said that those behind this ungodly step were playing dirty politics. they have seen or heard that most of Imo people who came home for the Christmas were shocked to see the high level of transformation in the State especially in Owerri, so much that most of them confessed that they could not recognize Owerri again. Which is true”
The Owerri Mayoral Affairs Boss said “It is equally important to once again appeal to this particular elements to always pursue peace and ensure peace as enjoined by God and not to always fan the ember of trouble or crisis”
It will be recalled that the Former Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf visited the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Centre at Concorde Avenue Owerri, Imo state sometimes last year to unveil her statue before the commissioning of the road.
