Members of the All Progressive Congress, APC sympathetic to the administration of Owelle Rocha Okorocha are at cross roads over the purported new delegate list of the party they were told is in their favour.
Trumpeta learnt that at a closed door meeting in Government House, Owerri, where stakeholders of the party and sympathizers of the governor met for a briefing, reports of a delegate list favourable to governor Rochas Okorocha line up in the party was said to have been accepted by the national secretariat of the party.
It would be recalled that there has been an internal battle by forces in APC over whose list should he adopted as delegates. Reports also have it that the list endorsed by Senators Ifeanyi Araraume and Osita Izunaso gained upper hand after the last congress.
But in the meeting held last week, jubilation empted in the camp of Okorocha as the revelation was made public that it was the governor’s list.
However, it was learnt that there is no evidence of any list from the national secretariat indicating that the names of those submitted by governor Okorocha crossed the hurdle for acceptance. Okorocha’s supporters have also realized that the jubilation that greeted the announcement inside the meeting hall was a ruse sending dangerous signals to the supporters
Grapevine sources in APC revealed that amidst the growing tension among Rescue Missionaries that Okorocha has lost out in the battle for delegates to other opposing forces, the only remedy was to assure his followers that it was the governor’s list that was finally accepted. The governor’s followers have since realized it was a tactical gimmick to hold on people in their camp against moving out.
Further disclosure also has it that the Rescue Mission agent who went for the list may have become a victim of fraudsters because the purported list adopted by the national secretariat was not made public at the meeting.
This newspaper however learnt that on learning that the issue of delegate list was stage-managed to calm the nerves of the governor’s followers, mass withdrawal of membership is being witnessed at the moment.
Efforts to reach the National Organizing Secretary of APC, who is from Imo State, Senator Izunaso react on the true position of the accepted delegate list proved abortive as his number was not accessible.
