Trinitas University will set the pace in qualitative education – Bishop Ukwuoma

Owing to the continued desire for more citadels of learning by Nigerians and the state of educational structural decay hindering human development goals, the Catholic Diocese of Orlu has established a blue print to realize Trinitas University Awo–Omamma.

Delivering his sermon during the ground breaking ceremony at the university site at kilometer 20, Owerri/Onitsha road by Njaba Bridge Awo–Omamma, Oru-East LGA, Imo State on the 1st of December, 2017, the Bishop of Orlu Diocese, Most Reverend Dr Augustine T.Ukwuoma stated that decision for Trinitas university was to continue in shining the light of God, translated into the minds and hearts of people adding that teaching and learning has been known through Christianity. He pointed-out that Christianity is in the centre of educating the minds and teachings of Christ with the fear of God.

Earlier in his address, Bishop Ukwuoma hinted that the early missionaries provided primary and secondary education, thus remarked that it’s the duty of the church to contribute to the growth of education in the Diocese and Nations.

Bishop of Orlu who commended the people of Awo-Omamma for the donation of over 104 hectares of land for Trinitas University also thanked Governor Rochas Okorocha for his financial donations and appealed for more support towards the project of building the minds of our children positively for a better future. “It was my dream to build an all girls university but the demand for education is needed by both sexes, I promised to tackle the project with effort and will of God”.

Earlier, the chairman, Board Of Trustees, Sir ABC Orjiako who reeled-out the statistics of universities in Nigeria revealed that amongst universities in the country, the Catholic Church ranks low in owning tertiary institutions and hence the need to establish Trinitas university.

Sir Orjiako promised that BOT members will ensure that the structure, governance and academic curriculum of Trinitas University will be of best practice, recognized globally, adding that the institution will strive to accomplish all that it is established for.

In an address presented by Hon Nkenna Nzeruo who expressed joy on the decision of Orlu Diocese to establish the university during his tenure as member representing Oru-East in the Imo State House of Assembly, noted that Awo-Omamma is highly favored with the citing of Trinitas University in their community.

Hon Nkenna maintained that the university project will transform the social, spiritual and economic land scape of people of the community as he thanked the Bishop of Orlu Diocese, HRH Eze B. N Amanfor, HRH Eze Ngima and late Eze Anthony Nnabuo who closed ranks to ensure the realization of the project.

Contributing, Prof. Awuzie, very Rev. Fr. Dr. Don Nnagha, Fr. Edmond Igboanusi, Hon. Celestine Ugoanyanwu noted that the connect between education and the church for the formation of human development is lacking adding that Trinitas University will be a centre of excellence in both its curricula, product and service to the host community and Nigeria. they noted that Trinitas University is work in progress as they enjoined everyone to ensure the noble vision of Orlu Diocese is achieved in a short time.
