Youths Group decries over unemployment in Imo

A newly formed youth group, the Nigerian Graduate Career Group (NGCG) has lamented the high rate of unemployment in Imo state, especially among graduate youths and have called for efforts to stem the tide.

In a chat with Imo Trumpeta, the coordinator of the group, Mr Nnabusi John said that the group was formed to tackle the challenge of graduate youth unemployment and called for help from well meaning Imolites to enable the group achieve its goals.

Mr. Nnabusi decried the trend whereby graduate youths shun agriculture in favour of non – existing white collar jobs, and said that his group will help to stem this tide by focusing on the area of multipurpose agriculture such a poultry, fish farming, snail farming, among others.

The NGCG coordinator said that his group has been in partnership with the Imo Agricultural Development Programme as well as the Imo state ministry of Youths and sports and other agencies in the areas of training and equipping of the youths and called for more collaboration efforts.

On the level of the participation of graduate youths in Imo state in the programme, Mr. Nnabusi said that the response they have gotten from the youths is encouraging.  He said that many people have responded positively to the posters and bill boards his group has put up, and expressed hope that more will come.

Mr. Nnabusi said that the programme is set to be launched formally in October, when the group will have a fund raising programme to fund the projects they are executing.
