As part of strategy to actualize its plots to capture political power that has eluded it since sixteen years non-stop now, the people of Owerri have trooped into All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, to do battle with Gov Rochas Okorocha in 2019 in the Governorship race.
According to impeccable sources, Owerri zone, who has been left out in the scheme of things in Imo State since Senator Evan Enwerem ruled the State for fifteen months, is not ready any more to play second fiddle with Orlu and Okigwe zones, who have indirectly arrogated themselves the right to Govern Imo State.
Trumpeta learnt that having studied Okorocha’s permutations for 2019 Imo Governorship, some prominent sons and daughters came to the conclusion that rather than wait for Okorocha to unfold his plots, it was better to be proactive, than be taken unawares again in 2019.
Trumpeta learnt that the only option left for Owerri to cage Okorocha in 2019 is to move into APGA in droves, build the party, and roll out the machines and confront Okorocha in the field in 2019.
Following this development, it was said that Owerri strategist poached men and women of like-minds from Orlu and Okigwe zones, who believe that it is the turn of Owerri to produce a successor to Orlu Governor in 2019 to join them in APGA.
Already, some political heavy weights of Owerri zone extraction have joined the APGA Train.
They include Dr Alex Obi,Senator Bright Nwanne, Chief Oshieze Ehirim, Chief Chris Njoku, Hon Uche Onyeagbako, Bar Charles Onyeagbako etc.
Sources told this Newspaper that Owerri zone does not want to put its eggs in one basket in 2019.
Trumpeta learnt that with the heavy weights now in APGA, the party would be the party to beat in 2019, with more people, especially from APC bound to join next year.
This Newspaper was told that Owerri zone is likely also to dominate PDP where it may pick the Governorship ticket and negotiate on coalition and take Owerri zone to Imo Governorship seat, since Okigwe and Orlu zones have ganged up to frustrate the zone from producing Governor of the State.
However, pundits told this Newspaper that if care is not taken, the legion of Guber hopefuls in APGA may cause implosion within the party.
“Well it is a nice idea if Owerri wants to actualize its 2019 Governorship dream through APGA. But the problem is that all those joining the party are eyeing Governorship seat in 2019, which may tear the party to piece and rock Owerri plan” Imo Government Appointee to Trumpeta.
Meanwhile, many of those interviewed by our Reporters said that the only solution for Owerri Governorship in 2019 is a coalition of parties, where only one candidate from Owerri will fly the flag.
