Once again students of Holy Ghost College, Owerri have shown their prowess in the game of soccer after they emerged champions of the Kaodili Cares Foundation Under 16 Football Competition for eight(8)selected Secondary Schools Imo State. Powered by NDDC.
Speaking to journalists shortly from New Bethel Secondary School,Aladimma-Owerri in the final, Principal of the school, rev Fr Cyprian Ogu expressed delight over his students performance stating that the school management apart from ensuring the boys take their studies serious they are also encouraged to engage in sporting activities including football.
Fr Ogu whille appreciating the organizers of the tournament for creating a wonderful opportunity for the students to showcase their talents noted that not everyone can excel in academic and such tournaments has in the past produced talents that have gone on to become big stars in the world.
He then thanked Arc Bishop Obinna For his support to the school.
Meanwhile, the Vice Principal of the school Rev Fr Basil Isreal has praised the efforts of his under 16 players in winning the tournament and maintaining the integrity of the institution.
He insisted that Holy Ghost College is traditionally known for shinning out talents like Kanu “papilo” Nwankwo who is now NFF sports Ambassador saying that some of the players who won the Kaodili Cares Foundation/NDDC Football competition for eight (8)selected schools in Imo State has the potential to be great in the future.
In the 3rd place match which was decided earlier, Technical School Irete defeated Ihitte Ukwa Comprehensive Secondary School 2-1 to emerge third best team in Imo winning #100,000 while the runner up New Bethel#200,000 just as the winners, Holy Ghost apart form the trophy also got #250,000.
Other Schools who participated include; Secondary Technical Akokwa, Comprehensive School, Ngor okpala and Urban Secondary School New owerri.
