As the battle for who becomes Governor Imo State draws nearer in 2019, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev Anthony Obinna has challenged Imo electorate to make sure that a person with credible integrity and character mounts the leadership of the State in 2019.

The Primate made this assertion while preaching at the 2017 Catholic Men Organization Day held at Assumpta Cathedral Owerri, Imo State.

He also condemned a situation where a statue said to worth Millions of Naira is erected in the State, for the President Zuma of South Africa while Imo masses go to sleep every night hungery.

“There is so much wuruwuru in Nigeria. You must look for people of integrity, not those who cling to human power, forgetting that human power is transient” he said.

The Archbishop lamented that the State Government does not recognize the role church plays in the education, health and social sectors, adding that it was ridiculous that there is no grant in aid to mission schools and Hospitals in Imo State, despite the important role the church plays in these areas.

He said that hundreds of Indigent citizens usually storm his office on Tuesdays to seek for alms, since they cannot reach the Governor of the State.

The Top Clergy said that Imo Government wastes funds on frivolities, leaving the most important issues that bother the masses.

“So, there are more ways to use money judiciously in Imo State, than building a statue said to be worth millions of naira for South African President, Jacob Zuma who is facing trials in his country” he said.
