TROUBLE LOOMS AS ORJI INDIGINES SET TO BATTLE GOVERNMENT OVER LAND

The Umuimeka village Orji the owners of Orji-mechanic village in the Owerri North LGA of Imo State are gearing for show down with the Imo state government for not releasing the 25% of the land space promised them as condition for acquiring Orji Mechanic village which belongs to them and Umudagu Mbieri in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo State.

Speaking to some newsmen recently, the chairman of mechanic village committee Umuimeka Orji Mr. Adolphus Amaechi opined that some coupled of months ago, the Imo state approached them with the intention of acquiring the Orji mechanic village owned by Umuimeka Orji and Umudagu Mbieri Mbaitoli LGA of Imo state. Sequel to the approach, the Imo state government promised both the Umuimeka-Orji and Umudagu-Mbieri 25% each of the entire land space at the Orji-mechanic village. The Imo state government went further and did the “Omenala ceremony” for them.

According to Mr. Amaechi, up till the time of going to press, the Imo state government is yet to release the 25% of the land area at the Orji mechanic village to them. Instead the government is busy fast erecting different structures on the said land, which allegedly does not belong to government but meant for personal use. Mr. Amaechi went further to state that the idea of Imo state government coming to survey the area to determine the boundary between Umuimeka Orji and Umudagu-Mbieri is just a way of buying time because Umuimeka Orji and Umudagu-Mbieri does not have boundary problems.

Elder Emmanuel Ohiri, the chairman Obilobi Umuimeka Orji in his contribution stated that what the Umuimeka Orji wants is for Imo state government to release the 25% promised them without further delay. He frowned at a situation where the Imo state government wants to deny them the only land left for their children born and yet to be born.

Okenze Alex Anorie in his contribution, stated that he is suspecting a foul play from the officers in the bureau for lands towards the release of their 25% of the land. He warned that as a law abiding citizens of the state, nobody should take them for a ride.

Mr. Godwin Anyanwu in his contribution posited that he is suspecting a foul play from one of their brothers who goes by the name “Home base”, whom the government allegedly is using to scuttle all their efforts.

Chief Chukwu Emeka Nwakuna collaborated the position of Mr. Godwin Anyanwu regarding the roles one of their brother, who does not have any land in the Orji Mechanic village.

Chief Maxwell Obodo agreed with all what Mr. Amaechi said together with others who spoke before him. but added that what Umuimeka Orji people want now is for the government to release the 25% land allocation promised them without further delay.

Mr. Samuel Oguike in his contribution frowned at the behavior of Imo state government over the release of the 25% land area from Orji Mechanic village and said that the attitude of the government shows clear case of deceit on the side of Umuimeka Orji. He reminded the government to realize that if the present matter is not settled amicably, that whatever is built on that land belongs to Umuimeka people, more so now that it is being alleged that their land acquired is not clearly for government interest.

It is important to state here that the Umuimeka Orji village in the Owerri north LGA of Imo state is now at a cross road because of the dribbling they are experiencing from the Imo state government over their bonafide property and prayed the Almighty God to rescue them from the situation they found themselves currently.
