Governor of Imo State and his Kaduna State Counterpart, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai have called on leaders at all levels in the Country to be Conscious of what they leave behind as legacies after such leadership positions, noting that Posterity and history must play their roles in the life of every leader.
Governor Okorocha and his Kaduna State Colleague, Mallam El-Rufai spoke last Friday at the funeral Church Service of an elder Statesman Nze Udueze Ndubueze Chinaka at the Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Nkwerre, Imo State, with the Imo State Governor who spoke first at the service contending that leaders who touched lives for good and served their God do not die but only transit because their good works would always stand for them to be remembered and appreciated even at death.
According to Governor Okorocha, “leaders or human beings who make lasting impact in the society and touched lives would never be easily forgotten, quite unlike the ones who took up leadership or lived for personal aggrandizement without doing anything to help the poor and the downtrodden around them. Such leaders or persons are those who go with obituaries. Good leaders or good people transit and do not get associated with obituaries”.
The governor Continued, “Good leaders who justified their positions of leadership and those who transit to glory do not die, rather, they live on, because what they have done speak for them. Our Lord Jesus is good example”.
He charged the clergy especially the Bishops to preach the gospel without fear which he said should be the best for the sheep rather than engaging in unfounded Criticisms, adding that they should also conduct their Church business with the fear of God, stating that he was sure that the Judgement of God would start from the House of God.
His words, “Preachings of Condemnations by the Bishops and Pastors do not bring people closer to God. But subtle language of encouragement could make a lot of difference on the part of the people”.
He described the late Nze Chinaka as a good man who equally demonstrated what leadership should be, and that was why alot of people including governors had come to pay him the last respect, and prayed that God would grant his family members the fortitude to bear the great loss.
Governor Okorocha commended Governor El-Rufai for finding time to attend the burial in his State and also for transforming Kaduna State within the short period he has been the governor of the State, adding that like President Mohammadu Buhari, Governor El-Rufai has zero tolerance for Corruption.
Governor El-Rufai in his speech at the service urged both leaders at all levels to live life of service to both God and humanity, adding that leadership means nothing without service. He also asked those who have got the Opportunity to serve to do so with sincerity and Selflessness.
He said, he decided to attend the burial in person because the late Pa Chinaka lived a life of service to his people and to the Society at large, remarking that one aspect of the Current administration’s change Campaign was selfless service by both those in positions of authority and those who have the means.
