ENUGU WINS EASTERN VETRANS FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT.



 

EnuguAll – Stars team on Sunday picked the sole ticket to represent the eastern states in the forth coming Veterans cup inAbujathis August.

Three All – Stars teams fromEnugu(host), Anambra andImoStateparticipated in the two day qualifying championship. Abia pulled out at the late hour due to the death of one of their members.

In the first game, Imo defeated the host Enugu by a lone goal on Saturday, while Enugu made amends in the second game by beating Anambra with the same score line.

Imo however lost to Anambra 0 – 1 to leave the tournament open. The organizers then decided to determine the winner through the gamble and lottery of penalties asEnuguwon it by beating Imo 5 – 2 and Anambra 3 – 2 on penalties.

Responding to Imo Trumpeta on their return, Mr Ray Ebede, PA to the Special Adviser on sports in Imo state Ambs, Kanu Nwankwo who travelled with the team expressed that it was a great reunion of the stars of yesterday coming together to do what they loved so much.

“With players like Casmir Mbachu, Kingsley Obiekwu, Emeka Nwobodo, Mike Obi, Willy Udube, Ifeanyi Onyedika, Johnny Anyagwa, Joe Ubanwa and many others, it seemed like the Nigeria league of the 80’s and 90’s.

“It was fun, though we lost, but you know when the game of football enters into penalty, it is no longer any body’s game as we weren’t lucky enough”, said Ebede.

EnuguAll – Stars team lead by Ifeanyi Onyedika will now represent the South – East at the Veterans Cup inAbujasome time this August.
