The Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representative, His Excellency, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha has congratulated the entire Mbaise nation for the 2012 Iriji Mbaise festival. The number 6th man in the federation noted that God loves Mbaise and has continued to sustain the peace and unity in the area and in the projecting of their sons and daughters to national and international lime light.
The Omenke Ahuru n’anya of Mbaise made this remark at central school Itu Ezinihitte Mbaise venue of the 2012 Iriji Mbaise. The Deputy Speaker whose arrival at the venue with retinue of some national and state legislators past and present electrified the entire event.
Welcoming the Deputy Speaker, who was the guest of honour at the occasion, the chairman of the event, Chief Bon Ajaegbu noted that Mbaise nation is proud to have a man like him who has distinguished himself as a leader to be trusted. He asked him not to relent as the people look up to him for more service to the state, nation and the entire humanity.
In his remarks during the official flag off of the 2012 Iri ji Mbaise, he commended Ndi Ezeji Mbaise for sustaining the culture for ages and promised that he will ensure that fertilizers are made available to farmers to help improve yam farming and agriculture as a whole in Mbaise and Imo state. Addressing the members of federated union of students in all the tertiary institutions in Imo state who came to solidarized with him for the 2012 Iri ji Mbaise students, Rt. Hon Ihedioha thanked them for the honour they have done him. He advised them to be focused and hardworking, stressing that it takes determination for any individual to succeed in the face of numerous life challenges. Responding, the students promised to be law abiding and to support him in his future endeavours as he has done a lot already for their generation.
Addressing the Mbaise nation, the Deputy Speaker mounting the podium called for peace and collaboration of efforts by all stakeholders in the united Mbaise project.
He advised that Mbaise has been known for progress and should not allow elements from outside to put a barrier to the sense of purpose of the Mbaise person.
At the National level, he said that the National Assembly has nothing against the Executive but that as the peoples’ representative there is to ensure that their constituencies get their due in the scheme of things. He said he will continue to champion good governance, the rule of law, positive representation and respect for human rights and therefore called on the people to support the Federal government and the transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan. He supported the Iwaji Mbaise with the support of N1m.
The Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas, represented by the Deputy Governor Sir Jude Agbaso arrived after the Deputy Speaker had gone to a scanty arena with his entourage comprising Chief Martin Agbaso, Dr Charles Onuoha, Commissioner for Housing and Urban Planning and Hon Ifeanyi Nwachukwu Commissioner for Transport and Special Duties.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, stated that the legacy of Mbaise on the Iri ji festival which harps on Agriculture is what Imo state government is trying to emulate. He called on the people to go back to land for food security and development. Sir Jude Agbaso called on Mbaise people to support the community government of the 4th tier for effective rural development.
The 2012 Iriji Mbaise witnessed a low turn-out compared to previous years. The weather was clement and people in different parts of Mbaise also celebrated in their different market squares in their respective autonomous communities.
Speaking to Imo Trumpeta, very Rev. Fr. Christopher Akuchie of Ahiara Diocese commended the Mbaise Ezejis, Ndi Ezes and the entire Mbaise people in the manner they have carried the culture without Regamistic practices as of old. He also appreciated the church for refining and sustaining the Iri ji festival.
