The 2015 second session of the 2nd synod of the Anglicans Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema of Imo state has come to an end with an appeal to Governor Rochas Okorocha to institute a policy that would place an embargo on the establishment of hotels in the state. The Bishop of the Diocese Rt Revd Chidi Collins Oparaojiaku made the appeal during the presentation of his synod address held at St. Paul’s Church Obitti -Ohaji/Egbema LGA penultimate Sunday.
The prelate frowned at the habitual practices of politicians in the state who at every weekend book all the hotels in the city for the purpose of sleeping with female children.
He said:”your Excellency, it will surprise you that every weekend from Thursday, every hotel in Imo state is fully booked by politicians and their allies who leave their families elsewhere and are here in Owerri with our girls”. He pointed out too many number of hotels in the state, adding that it has in no small measure contributed to the corruption and moral decadence in the society.
The Bishop said that the policy if immediately put in place, will encourage the people to channel the resources to building Industries that can create meaningful employment for the people. Bishop Oparaojiaku reminded the Governor that the change the people of the state expect can only come from him and his team if they accept to be examples to the people. He said that while the people owe it as a duty to offer collective and united prayers for the governor to ensure good governance that would enthrone development his tenure, urged the governor to focus his second term on tackling unemployment, poor education facilities, roads, lack of electricity supply among others. He also appealed to the Governor to also pay special attention to security of lives and properties of the people of the state so that the masses can sleep with their eyes closed. The Bishop advised the governor to carry out thorough investigation about the caliber of people to be appointed into positions of authority in order to ensure good governance to the people. The week long synod which witnessed the presence of dignitaries from within and outside the State came to climax with presentation of Award to well meaning Nigerians including the Deputy governor of Imo State Prince Eze Madumere and the Sspeaker Imo State House of Assembly Hon. Acho Ihim among others.
