Three-time champions of the Federation Cup Football Competition, Heartland FC of Owerri, yesterday, got their pound of flesh against Sharks FC of Port Harcourt with a 1─0 victory at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar.
The encounter which was one for the round of 16 encounters which was decided yesterday with some matches played today at various centres across the nation, saw the Naze Millionaires top striker in the NPFL, Bright Ejike, give the Owerri-based side the much desired goal and victory at the 42nd minute of the first half to the delight of their travelling fans.
It could be recalled that Heartland FC at this same stage last season suffered the same type of defeat in the hands of Sharks FC and so have gotten their sweet pound of flesh.
Reacting immediately after the match, the club’s Team Manager, Promise Nwachukwu, expressed his satisfaction over the victory, commending the players and the technical crew for avenging the defeat they suffered last season.
Meanwhile, the second Imo team in the Fed Cup games, Pilo FC, will today at the Goal Project Stadium, Abuja, take on FC Taraba in another round of 16 tie of the competition.
The Nationwide League side will seek to continue their fairy-run in the cup competition by attempting to repeat the feat they achieved against Gombe United in the previous round.
Arugo FC, it would be recalled, got to the semi-final stage in the 90s under the guidance of Chief Uche Ejimofor who incidentally is working with the Pilo FC team owned by Nwankwo Kanu.
