The general reception for Imo Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere by leaders of Owerri zone last Saturday which was also used to mark his 51 birthday may have revealed the plan of ensuring that a governor from the zone emerges come 2019.
The General reception according to sources was aimed at Imo State Governorship come 2019 which some leaders have to succeed the incumbent Governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
From all indication Prince Eze Madumere is gradually winning the Heart of Imo people especially those from Owerri zone and has become a major player in the current Democratic dispensation. Those who spoke to our reporter at the venue of his reception said Madumere is now a nightmare to his political enemies especially those in the opposition party.
The Owerri zone which appeared to have been completely out rawed is gradually waxing very strong. According to APC members, Madumere has brought Owerri zone back to the political mainstream of Imo State and deserved the guber position in 2019 to continue the rescue mission programs in the State.
However some political heavy weights in Owerri have advised him to endavour to unite all the Owerri zone into one umbrella.
Engr Chubuzor Unuegbu a community leader in Ikeduru LGA of Imo State in a chat with newsmen described the reception of Madumere as a very colorful one but advised him to put things on ground for his dream of succeeding Okorocha to become a reality.
“He needs to create opportunities to empower his people, have good rapour with the incumbent Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and solicit for Okigwe zone for support” Chief Gibson Achunwa Njemanze (aka Onyiga) in hi s own speech described Prince Eze Madumere as a good loyalist and hinted that he is coming very close to the number one seat. Oyiga disclosed that the Deputy Governor has been tested and trusted. In his word.
“Imo Guber 2019 will be discussed, but Madumere to be realistic stands a better chance because he has worked so hard”. Oyiga said.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Hon Barrister Kingsley Ononuju earlier in his address at the reception ground said the Deputy Governor deserved to be honoured for his good leadership in Owerri zone adding that all the factions have resolved to come together to speak in one voice.
