The immediate past Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim has said that some disgruntled politicians in Imo State are after his life by trying to peddle dubious information against him, thereby pitching him against Federal authorities.
In Press Release signed personally by the former Governor, he said that those who made life miserable while he lasted in office for four years as Governor of Imo State are at it again, and therefore has decided to raise an alarm for the public to take note.
Ohakim who said he is committed to the peace and development of Imo State and Nigeria, maintained that as a man of peace, he led an administration in Imo State where tranquility reigned, without political assassinations, labour unrests, unpaid salaries etc, yet all he got for serving his State was abuse and lies against his person.
“Throughout my tenure as Governor, we never hunted political opponents. There was no political assassination, no arson, no Government official disappeared, no impeachment of any kind” Ohakim said.
The former Governor disclosed that it was unfortunate that after four years he left Government as a former Governor of Imo State, “My portrait is still missing from amongst those of other former Governors in a gallery created for that purpose at Government House, Owerri.”
Ohakim described the celebrated story that he was arrested by the EFCC because he was trying to evade arrest as spurious and baseless.
“On the incident of Thursday, June 18, 2015, I would submit, with the highest sense of responsibility, that the drama was unnecessary. I never evaded invitation by the agency.” Ohakim hinted.
He said despite all the pebbles being thrown at him now he shall be vindicated one day as posterity will not forget he served Imo State with the fear of God “I have implicit confidence that the vision, dedication, fear of God and honesty of purpose with which I served my people, shall vindicate me” he said.
