The top Management Staff of Oru East Local Government Area, Imo State, are said to be living in fear following a petition written by one of the staff to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the alleged mismanagement of Ten million naira (N10m) Agric fund to the LGA by the Owelle Rochas Okorocha administration.
According to sources who spoke to Trumpeta, N10m released by the Governor of Imo State to Oru East LGA for Agric Project has vanished, as there is nothing on ground to say where the money was spent.
Trumpeta was informed that Okorocha had released millions of naira to Imo LGAs, through the Senior Staff of the LGAs to develop Agricultural projects to boost food production in the State, but the fund meant for Oru East, which was received by the top Management Staff of the LGA cannot be accounted for, as there is no Agric Project anywhere in the Council Area, Trumpeta learnt.
Following this ugly discovery, a Staff was said to have approached the EFCC to delve into the matter by inviting all the Senior Staff of the LGA to give account of the N10m from the Governor for Agricultural Projects.
While speaking to Trumpeta, a former Chairman of Imo State Local Government Commission, Dr Matthew Nwogu, said Governor Okorocha released the said amounts to boost Agricultural produce in the LGAs in the State but was disappointed that most of the Councils did not utilise their own grants well.
A worker who spoke to Trumpeta said, “It is unfortunate that no Agric project was initiated with such huge sum of money in Oru East.”
When contacted on phone, the Information Officer of Oru East LGA, Onuchukwu Hamilton disclosed that he has no knowledge of the said fund, but assured that the TC Chairman is a man of integrity, and honest and cannot tamper with public funds.
