Since getting the unanimous mandate to be the number one lawmaker in the Imo State House of Assembly, one common character that is noticed in the new Speaker, Acho Ihim, is the art of chewing gum.
Trumpeta can authoritatively reveal that the two-time member representing Okigwe State constituency has developed the knack to always battle with his teeth during plenary session of the House. Further investigation by the newspaper however disclosed that what gyrates in the new Speaker’s mouth is “chewing gum”, thereby making his lips not to be steady.
However, Trumpeta learnt that Ihim’s love for “chewing gum” is an old fashion peculiar to his normal style of easing tension. According to those who have been associating with him since his inauguration, Ihim is yet to calm his nerves while learning how to preside over the House made up of 26 members. As first among equals, Ihim is battling to find a methodology that will keep him afloat on the elevated seat like his predecessor, Rt. Hon Ben Uwajumogu did. But to soak up the pressure, his usual chewing gum fun has come to his rescue. Ihim’s mouth-twisting is always what to watch out for during sitting of the House.
