Commissioner for Information and Strategy inImoState, Mr. Chinedu Offor says that the state provides a conductive environment, devoid of government intimidation and hounding for journalists to practice their trade.
He said this while addressing members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists,ImoStatewho paid him a courtesy Call in his office at the Secretariat Complex, Owerri.
The Commissioner enjoined the representatives of media houses in the State to guard against what he termed the growing tendency of mercenary correspondents who come into the state to write sensational stories and walk out.
He equally advised journalists on the need to adopt developmental journalism especially as it affects the wellbeing of the people and advised them to eschew religious or political sentiments in their presentations.
Mr. Offor used the forum to announce that the premises of the state-owned newspaper, publishers of Statesmen, atEgbu Roadwould be moved to the Imo Broadcasting Corporation premise at New Owerri.
Chairman, Correspondent Chapel, Chief Chidi Nkwopara appealed to the present administration to grant free access to information to journalists in the State in order let the ordinary citizens know about the activities of government.
Chief Nkwopara, who identified correspondents as stakeholders in the Rescue Project, enjoined the Commissioner to take advantage of the routine Correspondents Forum to disseminate information to Imo People.
The Correspondent Chairman, who enjoined government to revive the ailing Imo Newpapers, however thanked Governor Okorocha for the donation of a working vehicle to the Chapel and promised to always support government in its policies and programmes.
