IBC Vs Government: Board Killing The Corporation – Staff

The last may not have been heard about the happenings in the Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) Owerri as the staffers are still leaking the scares of the wounds inflicted on them by what they called “bad management”.
Not too long ago, the workers of IBC Owerri carried out a peaceful demonstration to the Douglas House, Owerri, to press home the payment of their salary arrears. Although the demonstration paid off as the workers were given one month salary out of the many months owed them.
However, the anger of the workers were assuaged when they later learnt that the state government has set up a panel of inquiry to look into complaints as expressed by the demonstrators in their placards.
A visit to IBC will quickly expose the unhappiness of the staff as they stand in small groups lamentating the activities of the recently dissolved IBC Broad. The workers are yet to come to terms with an expense of N1.6million the Broad used to service the earthing facilities of the station which the Broad contracted ten months earlier.
Another worrisome incident the workers are not comfortable with is the purchasing of chairs and tables by the Broad, items they said were not the priorities of the corporation but a way of siphoning money. In addition to this was the receiving of awards which the Board receives almost on weekly basis while IBC underwrote the bills.
In a chat with Trumpeta, a senior staff who pleaded anonymity condemned the manner the Broad sat on daily basis to a point of taking over the running of the corporation coupled with what he called “bi-literal relationship” in which any monetary demands the Broad made were endorsed by the management and vice versa.
The senior staff called for the auditing of the IBC IGR especially from the campaign period till date pointing out that most of the advertisements which would have yielded revenue for the corporation were aired courtesy of the endorsement by the Broad with or no financial commitments. He said “the one that pained me most was the free use of the IBC facilities by the Broad for its aggrandizement”
On staff disposition, the senior staff said the Board destroyed the organigram of most departments pointing specifically at the engineering section where the Broad insisted that a junior staff with higher qualification should head a higher staff with less qualification but with proficiency. He mentioned the staff in charge of the fuel dump who before now trekked to work but now bought a( keke) tricycle and has built and opened a cold store room due to wrong staff disposition by the Board.
