New Imo Government Appointees were on Monday sworn in at the new Exco Chamber at Douglas House.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Rochas Okorocha said he will do unusual things to move Imo forward. According to him, there will be no dull moment in the second missionary journey, adding that all forms of corruption must stop.
He maintained that those who could not live up to expectation in his last executive council will be shown the way out.
The governor who revealed that he will use his new officers to bring back the lost glories of Imo and boost the internally generated revenue (IGR) of the state maintained that job creation, prompt payment of workers’ salaries and transformation of Imo environment would be his major focus.
He advised the new appointees to bring out their best and complement his efforts in the development of the state.
The governor alerted Imolites of the hard times ahead which he said came as a result of economic meltdown as Imo now has poor allocation which is considered to be one of the lowest in recent times.
“I am still in a hurry to make Imo better and we all must make the sacrifice for the good of our future generation.” Okorocha said.
He urged the new appointees to lead with good example.
“Be part of the solution and not to create problems for the state.” Okorocha told the new appointees.
He also hinted that it was society’s expectation that brought corruption in Imo. He explained that some of his past executive council members failed because they came to accumulate wealth in order to please their family and communities.
The governor announced that Imo will go more spiritual this time. According to him, 12 noon prayers must be observed at major roundabouts and public places. He mandated his lieutenants to make sure that Imo anthem is observed at every function. Moreover, the governor hinted that keke operators in the state will not wear uniforms, destitute and hawkers will be cleared from Owerri metropolis.
No single tout will be allowed to operate in the capital city and all parts of Owerri must remain clean at all times.
During the inauguration ceremony, Sam Onwuemeodo was given position of Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Barr Emma Ihediro took the position of SSA Special Duties, while Hon Ethelbert Ibeabuchi was appointed the SSA on Assets and Liabilities. Sir Jude Ejiogu took the oath as SSG. Hon Uche Nwosu was sworn-in as the new Chief of Staff, Imo Government House.
In his vote of thanks on behalf of the new appointees, the new SSG promised that they will give out their best to make Imo the promised land without delay.
During an interactive session with journalists shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, the new Chief of Staff, Hon Nwosu said he will use his position to bring sanity in the state.
“Owelle has given us a tall order and we shall work round the clock to make him succeed.” Uche Nwosu said.
Barr Emma Ibediro in his own speech said he will make sure that the interest of Governor Rochas Okorocha, his boss, is protected. He assured Imolites that Imo will soon become the cleanest state in Nigeria.
