Today, all roads lead to the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, as Owelle Rochas Okorocha is sworn-in for a second time as the Governor of Imo State.
The occasion is billed to start at about 10am, where the Imo State Chief Judge will administer the oath of office on Okorocha as the fifth civilian Governor of Imo State after Dr Sam Mbakwe, Senator Evan Enwerem, Chief Achike Udenwa and Dr Ikedi Ohakim in that order.
Okorocha first became governor on May 29, 2011, after winning a keenly contested Governorship election against the then incumbent Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim. While Ohakim ran under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Okorocha flew the flag of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
Okorocha in 2015 changed party and joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, under which he was challenged by his major opponent, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP.
Gov Okorocha, who hails from Ogboko in Ideato South LGA, is married with children, and grand children.
Although he is touted to have improved the road infrastructure of the state capital, Owerri, many expect him to upgrade the standard of the road constructions, as most of them wash away within months of completion with inferior materials.
One of his cardinal programmes is the Free Education, which has endeared him to the hearts of the downtrodden. But to whom much is given, much is expected, as Imo people expect him to create jobs for the teeming unemployed Imo citizens, and try to allow money circulate in the state in his second term, as many lament of dearth of funds during his first outing.
This is congratulating the Governor for his second term, and believe that Imo will be better for it.
