Lobi, Pillars set to deny Rangers NPL Crown

The title quest in this seasonsNigeriapremier league (NPL) will be determined on the final day after contenders, Lobi stars andkanopillars won their games on Wednesday.

In Katisna –Ala, Lobi starts started off well with the impressive Tony Okpotu scoring seven minutes against fellow title contenders, Enugu Rangers.

John Abutu made it two from the spot on 19 minutes after Okpotu was fouled inside the box.

At half time, Akwa United and the third title contenders, Kano Pillars were on stalemate leaving Lobi top of the NPL standings with a point lead.

Ten minutes inside the restart, attacking mid fielders Nasiru Ali scored to takeKanopillars top with a point over Lobi stars.

Pillars who were not missing their influential midfielder Gabriel Reuben conveniently kept the score at one – nil to stay top on 64 points above Lobi who finally battered Rangers three nil.

Rangers now drop to third on 61 points, as their hoodoo of 28 – year title drought continues to haunt them.

Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes recorded the highest scoring win on Wednesday when they disgraced the NPL defending champion, Dolphins FC four nil.

Enyimba’s dream of finishing in the top three and wining a berth into the 2013 CAF Confederation Cup was dashed after they lost one – nil to Jigwa stars.

Wikki Tourist surprisingly defeated Sharks 3 – 2 inPort Harcourtto get their first win on the road.
