Strike Looms In IBC: Workers Threaten Showdown

Barring any last minute change of heart, staff of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC, Owerri have concluded plans to embark upon an indefinite strike action to press home the demand for their three months outstanding salaries.
In a statement made available to Trumpeta, and sent to the IBC management and Board, at the end of a meeting on Wednesday, May 27, staff under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee resolved that a notice letter be forwarded to the management informing it of the decision of the staff to embark on an indefinite strike.
The JAC letter also reads in part, “It was also agreed that the staff and management of the IBC stage a peaceful protest at the Government House, Owerri, on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2015.”
The statement by JAC regretted that the staff are facing untold hardship occasioned by non-payment of salaries which have run into arrears of three months as many staff now find it difficult to transport themselves to work on daily basis.
On the peaceful demonstration, the JAC comprising the three unions in IBC ─ NUJ, RATTAWU and NASAWU ─ said it would be mandatory on all staff to participate just as the notification letter for the demonstration has been copied to the Imo NLC, Imo RATTAWU, DSS Imo State, Commissioner for Information as well as the Imo NUJ and NASAWU.
All attempts to get in touch with the IBC Owerri Board Chairman, Chief Ifeanyi Olumba proved abortive as all calls put across to him could not get through.
