Another crisis is said to have hit the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Imo, following outcome of the recent sate congress just as the one caused by the last delegate election and party primaries were yet to settle down.
The latest crisis which is tearing the APGA apart is the aftermath of the recent state congress of the party held on the Saturday 23rd May 2015 at the Rosy Art Theatre, Ikenegbu, Owerri. The Congress produced over twenty four(24) principal state working committee members, with Barr Peter Ezeobi returned a s the party chairman, Pastor Alphonsus Eberendu as state secretary, Hon Maria Mbanuzuo as the state woman leader among others.
However, it was a disappointing exercise for the delegates and aspirants who came from all parts of the state to vote and be voted for. This was becuase the proposed election turned to selection of the state working committee members by the panel from the party’s National Secretariat Abuja.
The announcement of the selected committee members caused n uncontrollable uproar and pandemonium in the hall as aggrieved members protested against the action which they referred to as undemocratic and unacceptable “This is wrong and unacceptable, how can you bring us out from our different homes to come and vote, even made aspirants spend money in buying forms and campaigning only to impose people on us, it is evil and another plan to kill the party” a stakeholder from Ideato South stated.
It was however disclosed to Trumpeta by another chieftain. Stakeholder and a former house of Assembly aspirant under the party’s platform, Lady Chika Uju that the list was made without the consent and interest of the members of the party, but to service personal interests.
She further regretted the impending consequences of the undemocratic action of some of the leaders of the party who imposed people that do not have followers in the state APGA to plot the affairs of the party.
In her words “The cock (APGA) is dead in Imo, I bought form just like others for twenty thousand naira (N20,000) but instead of conducting election, the panel from Abuja in collaboration with some National and State leaders of the party did selection…APGA is dead with the selection” She prophesied.
