It was more than a convergence of brothers and sisters on Sunday the 10th, May, 2015 as members of Oru East Local Government Area under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gathered at Umuezeukwe, Awo-Omamma residence of Engr. Okechukwu Iheanacho in a post election get together.
The occasion was graced by who is who as a mark of reconnection of party members after the 2015 general elections. Some of the top dignitaries present were; the LGA party chairman, Chief Dr Alloy Offor, LGA Apex leader and State Executive, Chief Osita Nwaneri, former TC chairman and Leader of Awo-Omamma Ward 1, Sir Tony Enoch, Chief Raymond Ibekwe (JP), Hon Kelechi Duru, Hon Odessey Obioha, Chief Linus Amukamara, Chief Eric Offordirinwa, among galaxy of other party heavy weights from Oru East.
In his opening speech, the LGA party chairman, Chief Alloy Offor expressed his satisfaction with the party faithful before, during, and after the electioneering period towards their commitment in ensuring that the party’s candidates emerged victorious at all levels, advising that though the party lost out in the governorship election, it should not relent in exhibiting that which they have been known for since past sixteen years of their leadership. Chief Offor attributed the convener’s (Engr Okechukwu) action of gathering the party’s members as a welcome development worthy of emulation, stressing that the next four years should be used effectively in correcting the anomalies which served as a militating factor in the just concluded elections for the betterment of 2019.
Contributing, one of the Apex leaders in Oru East LGA and member of PDP state working Committee, Chief Osita Nwareri thanked Engr Okechukwu and the organizers who deemed in fit to accommodate all after the hurdles of the election.
He described their position as “status quo ante” which in any condition remains the giant in the political landslide of the country. Chief Nwaneri enjoined the party members to be steadfast, focused and ever ready in the affairs of the party, pointing out that the party for the past sixteen years has been at the helm of governance and as such should allow other parties to govern so as to know their capabilities in the next four years.
Speaking, the convener and a PDP gladiator from Umuezukwe Awo-Omamma based in Abuja, Engr Okechukwu Iheanacho opined that he did not sponsor the get together because he is the richest, but because he wish to identify and rejoice with the party members adding that as a PDP member based in Abuja he knew how the election went which appeared as if power has shifted from PDP. Egnr Iheanacho disclosed that people in APC today were of the PDP stock pointing out that the pendulum will still swing back to PDP. According to him, “PDP has not failed. We are still in power. With the people in APC today, it is equal to PDP still in power. For over 16 years, we have tasted both good and bad. By 2019, we must take our mandate of leadership”.
Adding, the former Transition Committee Chairman of Oru East, Chief Sir Tony Enoch described the gathering as a turning point for PDP in Oru East, to get well equipped and ready to put hands together ahead the 2019 general elections.
He averred that the outcome of the just concluded polls has served as a turning point for greater Oru East PDP, urging all the members of PDP to be perseverance in the greater interest of Peoples Democratic Party.
