Madonna Schools Owerri yesterday, April 30, witnessed what was for them a near-war situation as MASSOB members went on rampage, pulling down the walls of Madonna Schools.
The latest was heard of the members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) as the group pulled down some sections of the walls of Madonna Schools on the order of the group’s Leader Chief Ralph Uwazurike. When Trumpeta correspondent visited the scene of the event, it was gathered that the Madonna Schools and Chief Uwazurike have been in court over the actual ownership of the piece of land under contention.
Upon further enquiry and investigations, it was gathered that the matter between Madonna Schools and Chief Uwazurike which has been in Federal High Court is also now in the Owerri Capital Development Authority, OCDA, whose authorities had ordered the MASSOB leader to stop further works on the plot of land under contention. An eyewitness who spoke to Trumpeta correspondent revealed that the authorities of the OCDA brought down the walls of the plot of land of which the matter has been in the Federal High Court, which led the members of MASSOB to go on a revenge mission.
All efforts to speak to the Rev Sister in charge of the Nursery and Primary School Section proved abortive as she could not speak as a result of the shock of what she saw. The old Rev Sister also thanked God that the walls never fell on any of the pupils as they were scattered round the compound on recreation.
Trumpeta was meant to understand that it took the intervention of parents who came to pick their wards to alert the police at whose instance the MASSOB members took to their heels.
