A renowned politician of Imo State extraction, (names withheld) has gone under to avoid apprehension by security agencies following his connection to a case concerning the death of a policeman who died as a result of gunshot sustained during the April 11, 2015 governorship election.
Trumpeta had exclusively reported in Tuesday edition of the newspaper how the top politician who is embroiled in defection drama entered into trouble when a military team monitoring the guber election ran into his convoy and stumbled on sensitive election materials in company of policemen.
A minor scuffle between the policemen in his convoy and the team of military officers saw a policeman shot. The victim later died in the hospital. The death however opened can of worms that led to the arrests of the other policemen and invitation of the fleeing politician from Mbano axis who deserted the state since the sad incident.
Trumpeta reliably learnt that the top politician has avoided police invitations extended to him for the investigations, while the officer incharge of the division and command of the arrested policemen that came for the suspected illegal duty in Imo are in touch with the investigating unit. The policemen were said to be from Edo and Abia states.
Reacting on the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer when contacted declined comments claiming he is not aware and such reports have not been brought to knowledge of the Police.
The command spokesman, Andrew Enwere, a DSP only informed Trumpeta about the readiness of police in the state in weekend’s bye-election. “We have made adequate preparation for protection of lives and property”, he added.
