Imo State Governor and Chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC, Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has received the unfortunate news of the death of one of the illustrious sons of Igboland, and one of the outstanding patriotic Nigerians, Senator Uche Chukwumereije at the age of 75.
Governor Okorochas could not believe the news of Senator Chukwumereije’s death when he first heard about it, until certain phone calls he made to that effect confirmed the demise of the Distinguished Senator in a private hospital in Abuja.
For years, Senator Chukwumereije had served the nation with a very high sense of commitment and responsibility, and had also dutifully served Ndi-Igbo, and his death at this time, would no doubt, create a vacuum that would not be easy to be filled both in the politics of the nation and in the life of the National Assembly because Nigerians would now miss his experiences and all that he represents.
According to Governor Okorocha, Nigerians would no longer witness the doggedness of Senator Chukwumereije and would have wished he had continued to live because of what he truly stood for. Senator Chukwumereije had not only believed much in the unity and progress of Nigeria, but had also worked to see it happen especially through his legislative activities.
The governor expressed deep regret that the Abia state born senator died when his services and his wealth of experiences are mostly needed.
Governor Okorocha prays God to grant the soul of Senator Chukwumereije eternal peace and the family members, the fortitude to bear this great loss.
