Reactions have continued to trail the April 1th gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Imo state which the Returning Officer, Prof Ibidapo Obe has declared inconclusive on the grounds that the number of cancelled votes are higher than what APC and PDP scored.
Sequel to this, an aggrieved sets of youths who addressed themselves as Imo PDP youths drawn from the 27 local government areas of the state, yesterday stormed the party’s secretariat, Okigwe road Owerri in a protest against the conduct of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) towards their party’s candidate, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards reads; we don’t need a murderer as our Governor again”, we need a true son of Imo state” It is Ihedioha or no one else to govern us”, Imo state will experience better change if given Ihedioha his rightful victory among others.
The roads leading to Okigwe road, Owerri was blocked while some keke riders plying across the road were beaten up by the angry youths. Okorocha’s Campaign posters were thorn into pieces, while they beat their chests that Ihedioha won the polls across the 27 LGAs and can’t stay to watch APC take away their mandate.
They further accused governor Okorocha of master minding the alleged “rigging” in his favour through ballot box snatching and doctoring of result sheets.
Addressing the protesters, the state party chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Barr Nnamdi Anyahie advised them to sheath their swords and not make their feelings known through violence, stressing that the secretariat has already petitioned to INEC on the need for prompt intervention in the governorship seat of Imo State. However, he optimistically assured them of a positive response in relation t the outcome of the polls.
