With some of the regional knockout games for the Etisalat/National School Sports Federation of Nigerian (NSSF) Soccer Competition completed yesterday at various centres across the nation, Imo and Anambra have secured the tickets in Region 3 and 4 (Port Harcourt and Owerri) centres respectively.
The Imo State contingent who was drawn in Port Harcourt Region alongside Cross River, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom States won all their 3 games to amass 9 points having beaten Cross River 7 1, Akwa Ibom 3 0 and Bayelsa 2 0 scoring a total of 12 goals and conceding 1 in all three matches.
Meanwhile in Owerri, Anambra State overcame the likes of Ebonyi, Rivers and Abia States to grab the Region 4 ticket while Enugu State failed to turn up in.
Anambra won three of their games by beating Rivers 1 0, Ebonyi 3 0 and Abia 2 0 to also garner 9 maximum points and join Imo team for the grand finale in a yet to be named date and venue.
Speaking to Trumpeta Sports Desk immediately after Anambra’s victory over Abia, the Etisalat supervisor for Region 4 (Owerri), Nnacheta Chinanuekpere expressed his gratitude to the participating teams and the officials including the Region 4 LOC members for a hitch-free and smooth sailing contest stating that his company (Etisalat) is committed to the support for developing young and talented footballers especially at the stage of U-15 pointing out that it will go a long way to ease the problem of selecting our National U-17 players.
The Enugu State-born Supervisor, who will be taking his heartthrob to the altar on December 27, 2014 at Enugu, thanked specially Mr Ago Agogbua and Mr Lekan Babalola (Head of Activation) for their commitment and zeal towards realising to set objectives.
Reacting, Mr Onyekwere Abasa Chuka (Schools Sports Coach Imo State Ministry of Education) also commended the teams for exhibiting a good level of football played during the tournament thanking Etisalat for supporting the innovation of catching them young.
He however reiterated the commitment of NSSF towards ensuring that our young scholars are kept physically fit and guided in realising their God-given talent.
