Owerri – North win Deputy Governor Cup

Owerri North Local Government female football team on Saturday the 11th of August 2012, won the maiden edition of the YSFON organized female football competition that is powered by the Deputy Governor of Imo state, Sir Jude Agbaso.

The ladies from Owerri – North defeated their compatriots from Ehime – Mbano by 2 -0 at Dan Anyiam stadium, Owerri.

Anthony Njideka shot her side into the lead at the 8th minute of the game, when she resieved a through pass from Cynthia Aku who later converted a 75th minute spot kick to give Owerri – North a comfortable 2 – 0 score line.

During the presentation of the giant trophy to the team, the Deputy Governor, praised the efforts of YSFON in the State for working hard to bring the game to a successful end, in a very enterprising and entertaining day.

He also expressed his satisfaction on the level of competition exhibited by the teams, stating that with what he has seen, Imo state can build on that to form a formidable female football team that can make the State proud especially at the National Sorts festival and the National female league.

Sir Agbaso then promised of his continued support and commitment in promoting female football in the State as part of the “Rescue Mission Agenda”.
