All is now set for the mother of all soccer championships, the Izu Owerri Unity Football Competition for the three Local Government Areas that make up Owerri Federal Constituency, Owerri Municipal, North and West LGA’s.
According to a release made available to Trumpeta Sports desk by one of the Championship Co-ordinators, Comrade Osuji Kemas, the competition is the brain child of the President of the World Owerri Peoples Congress (WOPC), Hon Tony Mba and the Chairman International and Political, Nlemchi Kelvin IK in USA to help bring the good people of Owerri under one Voice as well as to chart a good course towards developing the youths.
He stated that the competition which is expected to last for three weeks already has a giant trophy for the 1st prize which was donated by a proud daughter of Owerri, Stella Njemanze Nebo who is also based in USA.
Kemas noted that Sports globally has become lucrative business, he added that the world Owerri people congress (USA) is trying to catch in on the fast growing trend by establishing a worthy avenue for Owerri youths among many other activities revealing that the soccer championship will also act as a prelude to the launching of IZU Owerri formerly.
The competition will be drawn to a close in December with fun fair and will aim at showcasing the cultural heritage of Owerri with notable dignities of Owerri indigene expected to be in attendance.
