Much have been said and read about the recently held People’s Democratic Party PDP delegate congresses in Imo State, but the last has not been heard as protesters continue to greet the Party’s secretariat in their numbers with placards.
Reacting to the series of protests by aggrieved members over the PDP congresses held recently, the PDP State Working Committee had in a communiqué signed by the State Publicity Secretary Hon. Kizito Onuoha, charged aspirants to go after the respective delegates as the leadership of PDP in the State under Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie has re-affirmed commitment towards providing a level playing ground to ensure free, fair and transparent processes for all candidates aspiring for elective offices.
He noted that despite some hiccups and human errors noticed from the last Ad hoc delegate primaries, aspirants and teeming members are still convinced that the ability of the State Party leadership will deliver on his promise.
He further explained that the short comings of the exercise by the supervising team from Abuja was due to logistics, as some members of the said team arrived on separate notes and made sacrifices on transportations to their various destinations, the Party promised that circumstances that arose from the above shortcomings will never re-occur.
The Party debunked claims arising from the processes of electing delegates through manipulation to favour particular interest, or anoint a particular aspirant, pointing out that it is left for respective aspirants for elective positions to identify and convince their delegates through their manifesto and capacity to win the forthcoming elections if given the Party’s ticket as candidates.
The State Working Committee urged the respected aspirants, stakeholders and membership not to lose sight of ensuring that our great Party wins all positions available for contest in the forthcoming 2015 elections in Imo State.
Meanwhile, Yesterday an angry group of protesters under the Imo Transporters Forum in conjunction with Imo Market Traders Association and Imo Artisans, in their numbers stormed the Party’s secretariat along Okigwe road Owerri with placards inscriptions alleging the hijack of the Imo guber Ticket by some old politicians in the State as they threatened to decamp to other Party’s if equity, justice and the credible candidates are not given the Party’s ticket.
In a communiqué signed and issued by the State Chairman of the group Comrade Chukwuemeka Godwin and his secretary Comrade Ahaneku Williams made available to Trumpeta Newspaper, stated that they are aware of some old politicians who hijacked the party’s ward congress thereby disrupting the due process of the congress adding that they had resolved during their last meeting held at Rock View Hotel in Owerri to protest against this back-drop as they opined that all aspirants who have held elective offices both at the State and federal level be stopped from having the Governorship ticket.
They further stated that as a group with over 500,000 members, who contributed to the failure of Ohakim against Rochas in 2011, they have in consolidation with Contact and Mobilization Committee of PDP decided to come back and help deliver Imo State to PDP in 2015, as they insist on the support for Owerri Zone.
