Sports Plays A Vital Role In Reducing Crime- ACP Kigigha
Advises Nigerian Clubs To Look After Their Ex- Players
The area commander in charge of owerri zone ACP Felix Kigigha has stated that sports if properly managed can play a vital role in helping to reduce crime in our society.
The Assistant Commissioner of police who spoke exclusively to Trumpeta sports recently in his office asserted that most crime committed all over the world are done by youths .He posited that with sports progammes that engage not just the athletes but also the spectators who within that period of time the game is going on will cast their mind away from every criminal activity.
ACP Kigigha who also is a CAF/FIFA referees physical training instructor and a Football match commissioner was of the opinion that our politicians and society leaders who are involved in sponsoring the youths by procuring ammunitions which our restive youths use to create problems in the society can channel these funds into sponsoring sporting progammes that can engage our teaming youths meaningfully ,crime in Nigeria will fade away. He encouraged the state Government and other States of the Federation to always catch in on National youth sports Competition that comes up annually which has not just helped to identify talents but also has the capacity to raise millionaire athletes because sports around the globe is now a lucrative business.
In a related development, Kigigha who doubles as the president of the Imo All Stars International took time to call on Nigerian Club sides especially those of the elite devision to institute a system that can be used to take care of their ex-players who are passing through difficulties in their life after their playing days.
He gave an instance with Enugu Rangers who pay monthly stipends to some of their ex-players urging others to emulate them as it will help to ameliorate their difficulties.
NPFL: Heartland FC Throws Stadium Gates Open for Bayelsa game GM Appreciates Gov. Okorocha
Heartland Football Club of Owerri have decided to throw the gates of Dan Anyiam Stadium wide open ahead of their game against Bayelsa United this Sunday.
The General Manager of the Naze millionaires, Prince Okey Ibeh who disclosed this to our reporter expressed his gratitude to the number one citizen of the state Gov Rochas Okorocha and the honourable Commissioner for youth and sports Comrade Kenneth Emelu for the confidence reposed on him to thinker the affairs of their team while appreciating their fan club and all the supporters and admires of the team.
In a show of appreciation , the GM informed that the management has decided to throw the stadium gate open for all their teaming supports to troop out in their numbers and cheer them to a resounding victory in their last NPL game of the season 2013/14.
It could be recalled that just last weekend the former league champion got their second away victory of the season in Uyo after they piped their counterparts Akwa United.
They may not have qualified for the continent or won any trophy (Fed cup &league) but a possible 58 points finish at the end of the league is indeed a remarkable feet considering the number of points dropped in their early home games and the fact that most of the player used by Coach Kelchi Emetole are relatively young
This also gives the hope that if this set of players are kept in tact with few additional strong hands, heartland can challenge for all tittles come next season.
