The race for the various governorship seats in the country is now gathering momentum with primary elections slated by I NEC for all political parties in October 2014.
As expected gubernatorial candidates all over the country have been marketing themselves amo9ng the expected delegates and party leaders.
In Imo State an army of gubernatorial aspirants numbering over thirty from all the political parties are showing interest in Douglas House.
A critical look all the political landscape. In Imo State would quickly reveal that the major contenders for the Douglas House in Imo State are the peoples Democratic party PDP and the Alt progressive congress APC The 2015 flag bearer of the APC in Imo State is the incumbent governor Oweklle Rochas Okorocha who clenched the position on a populist uprising against the incumbent PDP government of Chief Godson Ikedi Ohakim in 2011.
For now the PDP has no flag bearer and its determination to recover its lost power in 2011 must begin with a selection of the right candidates that meets the aspiration and vision of Imo people.
PDP should have done a post 2011 election analysis to know why the incumbent governor lost Power to a passersby. The answer is very important and critical in order to avoid the repeat of the 20111 debacle. Imo people have gone through rain and sunshine and have been bruised in all sectors a life.
Consequently there is a fundamental need and desire for a change for the best. I must concede that the incumbent governor has done well in certain areas like infrastructural transformation and a very serious attempt to address the problems of pensions and gratuities but Imo must go beyond the level of better to best. While I thank Owelle for making Imo better than he found it it is also time to move Imo from better to best.
For the PDP to achieve, this the king makes in PDP must select a governship candidates that has an identity, track record of performance in administration ,sound education, humble and a man of honour and integrity. Imo citizens want a governor who has lived in Imo and knows the problems of the State Imo people want a governor who will be accessible and conduct himself decorously and decently . Imo people want a governor who will respect the rule of law and obey court orders, respect the people and rule with human face. Imo people want a governor who is God fearing and can be trusted with his words.
Other states of the federation like the western states who have since realized the value of allowing professionals to govern them have made tremendous strides in governance. This is because these cadre of people are well equipped as the philosopher king of Plato’s Republic Indeed this is what Plato hold in mind when he wrote several centuries ago that only philosopher king should govern.
A look at the army of aspirants angling for Imo Douglas House reveals men and women of timber and caliber but many of them do not possessed most of the qualities listed above. Some are educated but lack Integrity, some do not have administrative experience while some who have administrative experience lack humility.
It is only Professor Jude Njoku that captures all these qualities and the PDP would do itself a lot of good and favour if it gives Professor Jude Njoku the PDP governship flag bearer and it would be sure of coming back to Douglas House Owerri come 2015.
Imo needs experienced professional and technocrats like Professor Jude Njoku to restore sanity in governance in Imo State Professor Jude Njoku is marketable product any day any time and Imo people are yearning for such a man.
