The newly formed Imo State Traffic Management Authority (ISTMA) has revealed through their Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chief Don Linus Onwukaike and the Managing Director (MD) Mr. Emeka Osuorji that the Authority is putting all the necessary final touches needed for the commencement of its operation by September.
According to them, the staff recruitment has been concluded with a written test and successful candidate short-listed. It was further revealed that the short listed candidates are billed for one month intensive training at theGovernmentCollegepremises Owerri on the objective of ISTMA and the duties of the staff as regards traffic decongestion in all the densely populated towns inImoState. The training was revealed to be done in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
Chief Onwukaike disclosed that ISTMA is backed by the 14th Law of 2011, by the Imo House of Assembly with a provision to operate under the supervisions of the State Ministry of Transport for free flow of traffic like LASTMA inLagos and TIMARIV inRiversState. The CEO told newsmen that the primary aim of establishing ISTMA is to combat the traffic grid lock being experienced in Owerri and other cities in Imo state and also maintain a free flow of traffic and accident free travels by making sure that road user make use of parks, obey traffic signs and rules.
They however enjoined all Imo citizens to corporate with the staff of the authority as the trained staff are not out to victimize anybody but to enforce law and order, they also disclosed to road users that any traffic related matters hold be handled by only ISTMA and not any other agency or agencies.
