the Mayor of Orlu zone, Dr Goddy Esom Obodo, has come under fire by his kinsmen who declared him a spent force and never-do-well political marabout not worthy to hold office on behalf of the oil producing areas of Imo state.
According to a statement by the Imo Oil Producing Areas Consultative Forum (IOPACF), signed by Comrade Nyenke Thomas and Dr Chris Okorie Chairman and secretary respectively, made available to Trumpeta, the continued stay of Obodo in public office representing the interest of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta, the two oil producing councils of the state, is not only meaningless but also a colossal waste to the people of the area.
The group which comprises progressive elements in Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta LGAs blasted Obodo for his recent comments concerning some political leaders in the area who his branded as failures because they are more competent than him to run for the House of reps position.
While stating that Obodo has nothing to show to Ohaji/Egbema people for being in power since 1999 till date, than a wretched bungalow used for pedestrian brothel that encourages immoral debasing acts in his Amafor country home, Ohaji, the forum noted that his flair for engaging in politics of the stomach as a fair whether politicians has rubbished his integrity, image and standing before his constituents.
The group recalled that Obodo’s significant achievement as member representing Ohaji/Egbema in Imo Assembly (1999-2003) was only dumping ANPP to PDP because of easy lucre offered him by the power that be at the executive arm of government, and arrogating to himself the ludicrous nickname of “Prince of the Oil Kingdom” as a power hubris and over ambitions politicians.
“As a commissioner during the regime of Achike Udenwa years ago, Obodo failed woefully in proving to Ohaji/Egbema why he should be the eye of the people in the governor’s cabinet as no kilometer of road was ashphalted when he was commissioner of works and later that of commerce and industry that was after he failed to move or pass a motion that touched the lives of Ohaji/Egbema people. His record was making his brother the traditional ruler of his autonomous community. He had nothing to bequeath to his people during Ohakim’s era, it was unfortunate that after unsuccessful attempts to have his wife appointed member of LGA caretaker committee, Obodo became OCDA Board chairman courtesy of his then brother and speaker Rt Hon Goodluck Opiah. But in his treacherous approach, he was shoved aside” the group began.
“We have again watched with great amazement as Obodo is on the throne again to represent interest of our people. But his presence in Okorocha’s government is a minus because Ohaji/Egbema and indeed Oguta are losing from the good leadership the governor is offering Imolites. The poor leadership qualities Obodo and his cronies are offering to Okorocha may have prompted the governor to blame continuously blame Ohaji/Egbema leaders working with him for the underdevelopment and eventual denial of basic amenities to people of the area by Rescue Mission government”
The group regretted that leaders like Obodo kept sealed lips when Imo Poly courses were taken away from Umuagwo to other areas, Adapalm sold without consultation to leaders of the area, Umuokanne General Hospital removed and no state government road by the present administration whereas he was accused of excelling in instigating intra-party rivalry in APC and working against real leaders and political messiahs of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta people.
While warning him to desist from such unpatriotic acts, the group informed Obodo that his Reps ambition is a wild goose chase as no right thinking person from the Federal constituency will consider supporting a party ticket to not to talk of voting for him during the main election because of his sordid past. “He is a political leper and encumbered specie for any election in Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta. What has he been able to do for our people since he became Mayor of Orlu zone to aspire for Reps for the Federal constituency? That could be the reason ACN regretted field him in 2011 for Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta, Oru West Federal Constituency, the Imo Oil Producing Areas Constitutive Forum, a socio-political group in the area queried.
