The race for Owerri West Assembly seat has taken a new dimension with the intention of Hon Victor Onyewuchi (Ikonne) aspiring to represent the area in the Imo State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Ikonne, recently kicked off his consultations by embarking on a tour of all the wards in Owerri West local Government Area of Imo State.
His visit with his large army of supporters and members of his Divine Mandate campaign team, to Arah block in Umuguma, Ward 2, and Okuku Ward 3 really electrified the area as the people displayed their acceptance of his aspiration. Also on his campaign train were APC ward executives and party members from various wards in the community
In his speech, he said before he decided to contest, he had done a lot for the people, saying that at Nekede y he built a borehole in each of the communities and also bought a 500kva transformer and also sponsored many youths abroad.
The House of Assembly aspirant also presented his manifesto to the people and asked them to vote for him at the primary election. He promised to do a lot for the people of Owerri West assuring them that he will guarantee efficient healthcare delivery, good roads, as well as ensure the protection of lives and properties.
He described the APC as the greatest party in West Africa, adding that the State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha remains the best governor of Imo State since the inception of democracy in the State in 1999. He also said the APC is the largest political party in Owerri West, and provided funds for the payment of party offices rent in each of the 10 wards in Owerri West LGA.
On Saturday, June 14, 2014, he led his campaign train to visited Avu/Oforola Ward 1 and Obinze ward 8 where hundreds of party supporters, ward executives who came out in their numbers to welcome him. He assisted them financially by providing funds for them secure a party office. He also solicited for their support especially the delegates. He reminded the people that he has been helping and assisting people in Owerri West with his personal resources, assuring them that if they elect him to the House of Assembly, he will ensure that what is due to them gets to them in on time. Adding that he would ensure that the boundary problem between Owerri municipal and Owerri west was solved permanently
In his speech, the Director General, Divine Mandate, Dr. Collins Anah, described Hon Ikonne as a credible candidate that would lead Owerri West to the Promised Land.
On Sunday, June 15th, 2014, at Umunwoha block in Amakohia Ubi/Ohii/Ndegwu ward 9 and Irete/Orogwe ward 10, he noted that the roads in the area are in bad shape and if elected will ensure that attention is given to the road. He promised to liaise with the community for the appointment of a legislative Liaison Officer (LLO) that will be reminding him the promises he made to the community.
On Monday, June 16th, 2014 at Oche block in Okolochi/ Emeabiam Umuokpo/Olaku, Omusu ward 4, eziobodo ward 5, Ikonne asked for their support especially during the party primaries. He gave money to repair Okolochi roads in the area after the spokesman of the community Emma Okorie had complained that roads in the area were in bad shape and have to be repaired
On Tuesday, June 17th, 2014 at Ihiagwa ward 6, he was given a warm reception as he also gave money for a party office and also gave money to repair damaged roads, assuring that he will do more if elected in 2015.
On Wednesday, June 18th, was the grand finale of the consultation visit at his country home, Umualum Nekede where another successful outing was recorded.
At the event, he hosted all concerned APC stalwarts. In their separate speeches, Hon Apostle Chiturumugo Nathan reiterated the good legislative packages prepared by Hon Victor Onyewuchi (Ikonne) for the people of Owerri West.
Apostle Nathan maintained that the aspirant has all it takes to re engineer Owerri West by industrialization and construction of roads and he urged the APC stalwarts to support Hon Ikonne who has the interest of the common man at heart.
In his remarks, the chairman, Ihiagwa ward 6, Mr. festus Udenwa described Hon Onyweuchi as a true son of Owerri West who has contributed to the development of the party as well as championed the campaign to alleviate the plight of the less privileged in Owerri West. Hon Daniel Ugwuoma enjoined the people of Owerri West to support Hon Ikonne’s aspiration.
