The Publishers of Imo Trumpeta Newspaper namely Henry Ekpe, Gerry Ogu and Kelechi Mejuobi have raised alarm over threat to their lives by some elements who said they are disgusted with the stories carried by the Newspaper regarding Government policies. The Publishers said that apart from the threat calls, some shadowy persons have been stalking them, which necessitated them alerting the public that should anything happen to them, Imo people should note that it was because of the view of their Newspaper which is bent on informing the public accurately. They said that since the debut of the Newspaper, there has been the allegation that the Newspaper was sponsored by certain politicians to mainly fights the Government, which they had denied, saying that they are only sticking to the ethics of Journalism, which is to inform, entertain and educate the public. “We have repeated it at every fora that this Newspaper is wholly owned by the three of us, without a penny from any source. You can investigate” Henry Ekpe, the Editor – in – Chief said. Asked whether they have reported the matter to the police, the Editors said the matter is a security issue and are on it, but only informing the general public, adding that recently a woman was beheaded at Egbu, while an Aide to the Imo Speaker was butchered in his house last week, pointing out that they have brief their families, in case they meet any sudden death or kidnap. It would be recalled that months after Imo Trumpeta hit the stands, some unknown persons broke into their offices, carting away valuable documents, cash and computers. Their Editor – in – Chief Henry Ekpe had escaped death after a mob attack last year at High Court Owerri while the Deputy Editor – in – Chief, Sir Kelechi Mejuobi was chased by unknown people but escaped.
