Apparently afraid of early retirement in the State Civil Service, some top management staff of Imo State House of Assembly are alleged to be involved in age falsification.
Imo Trumpeta gathered on good authority that a number of the staff at the top echelon of the management due for retirement due to age and number of years put in service have employed subterranean means to escape retirement.
A top staff of the Assembly, reported to be in charge of all activities in the House, (names withheld) is alleged to have falsified his date of birth and date he joined the Civil Service to avoid retirement. The official was reported to have joined the Civil Service in 1979 as a dancer with one of the government parastatals before moving to one of the ministries and landing at the House of Assembly to grab a plum position.
According to Trumpeta findings, the top management staff was born in 1952 and was due to retire but further disclosures indicate that the date of birth records has been mutilated to add more years to the affected officer who goes about boasting that he cannot retire until when it pleases him.
Also involved in the age racketing are other senior staffers who engage in doctoring and amending their date of births and working records to avoid retirements. The practice is prominent among the legislative clerks who have taken the position of chamber staff as their birth right and personal position. Their resolve not to quit the scene is causing uneasy calm in the State Assembly as other staff or the legislative arm continues to complain about the activities of the age cheats.
