The reported disagreement between Dredgers and a relation of the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, (names withheld) may have led to the temporary closure of dredging site at Nworie River bank.
Our reporter who was at the dredging site for on the-spot-assessment noticed no activities at the site as work has stopped temporarily.
After proper verifications, it was observed that the alarming skirmishes between the dredgers and the said governor’s relation may have led to the abrupt closure and inactivity at the place.
The owners of the dredging machines have alleged that Imo government brought discrimination in the business adding that it has become survival of the fittest
Operators at the site accused the petroleum commissioner, Hon Okey Okoro is trying to take sides and create an enabling ground for one of Okorocha’s eldest female to monopolize the dredging business.
The management of Zaza Company has raised eye brows on alleged extortion activities going on as their companies involved in the sand dredging business have threatened to drag one of Okorocha’s sister said to be involved and Imo Government to court if she refuses to readdress her steps on the management of the site.
Source hinted that in fighting between the two parties at the Nworie River has escalated warranting the state government to place ban on the dredging of sand at the place until peace is returned.
The dredgers are crying foul that after spending hugs amounts to settle host communities, hire equipment like loaders, dredgers and tippers for their business before the government stopped the work unannounced which has made them great losers.
