The General Manager of the Owerri Capital Development Authority, OCDA, Hon Iheanyi Abakwume has challenged Chinwe Akano and Associates, the managers of Hero’s Apartments, New Owerri, to present the paper authorizing it to build new structures in the complex.
Speaking to Journalists in his office yesterday, Abaekwume said that Chinwe Akano Associates was only leased the apartments to rehabilitate and operate for twenty years by the Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration, and not to put up any other structure.
The Town Planner cum administrator maintained that Akano and Associates went against the law by constructing new apartments in the “Open Space” in the quarters, which is meant for recreation, and thereby went against the design of the complex, adding that he who comes for equity must have clean hands.
Reacting to the said face-off OCDA had with the Akano’s which led to the beating on Mrs Chinwe Akano,to a state of coma, Abaekwueme replied that nobody touched Mrs Akano, whom he said was playing theatrics, by pretending that she was crippled from beatings she was alleged to have received from OCDA operatives.
Abaekwueme said he was ashamed that a woman could act the way Mrs Akano did by first attacking OCDA officials doing their legitimate jobs, by simply asking her to sign a paper for them.
The OCDA boss disclosed that the agency suffered a lot of damages, both in human and materials, from hoodlums believed to be engaged by the Akanos who assaulted his staff and beat them silly, with OCDA vehicles damaged.
Abaekwume maintained that for Owerri to regain its beauty to the fullest, some body has to do the job, and appealed to all builders in the city to always obey the Owerri master plan in order tot avoid OCDA’s wrath.
Meanwhile, the publishers of Frontline Newspapers, and National Question Newspaper who went to carry out on the spot assessment of the said illegal structure at the Hero’s apartment yesterday escaped death by the whiskers when they were way-laid by a group of hoodlums, until a call to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO led to their release and escape.
Attempts to reach the Akanos proved abortive as their lines rang several times without response.
