The spate of resignations in Imo State has again touched the side of the office of the Speaker as another prominent aide and Special Assistant to Speaker Ben Uwajumogu on Protocol/Special Events. Hon Iruono Chukwunonye has resigned.
Iruono exit is coming months after the controversial resignation of the former media aide and Special Adviser Special Duties Citizen Samuelson Iwuoha.
In a handwritten letter to the Speaker signaling his decision to quit from the office, Iruono who was in charge of Public Events, in the letter dated 27th February 2014 noted that he has to quit for purposes of embarking on a “political voyage ahead of the 2015 general elections”
Iruono from Okigwe, was among the first group of aides who joined Speaker Uwajumogu in Imo Assembly as SSA on Protocol/Special Events.
However, reports from the office of the Speaker indicate that Iruono’s impromptu decision to quit was to avoid a sack letter prepared for him by the Speaker’s office after it was discovered that the renowned compere and fast emerging political icon is thinking differently from his former principal’s future ambition, as Uwajumogu is being alleged to be working for another Senatorial candidate for Okigwe zone, which the Speaker is reported to be interested in come 2015 election.
Trumpeta learnt that the office of the Speaker has been suspicious of Iruono’s activities in recent times. The mass defection to PDP APC/APGA members became the last straw to keep a close check on the Okigwe born politician.
