A teacher (names withheld) in Okwelle Secondary School in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo state is now battling between life and death following a heavy beating he received from the hands of relatives of a student (names withheld) whom the teacher disciplined for failing to obey his instruction.
The Teacher, who was newly employed in the school is now lying critically ill in an undisclosed hospital in the area, for fear that his attackers may storm the hospital to finish him.
Trumpeta learnt that trouble started for the young teacher, who takes SSS Four and Five students in English Language at Okwelle Secondary School, when he called out some students with busy hairs and long finger nails and asked them to cut them while coming to school the next day.
However, the next day, the Teacher discovered that while some of them obeyed his instruction, about three of them did not.
In a bid to discipline the students, the now battered Teacher used razor to shave off some parts of the “Aforo head” of the stubborn students, so that they would be forced to shave their entire hair.
The innocent-minded Teacher went on with the business of the day, not knowing that one of the students had ran home to tell his relations that he suffered humiliation in the hands of his Teacher.
Pronto, the relatives of the student stormed the school, with cudgels, knives, stones and cutlasses and went straight for the Teacher, who was beaten to a pulp in the presence of his students and fellow Teachers, who were helpless, and took to their heels.
When the attackers had left, leaving the Teacher in a pool of his own blood, his colleagues who could brave the situation came to take him to the hospital where he is presently battling with life.
When Trumpeta team visited Okwelle Secondary School yesterday, the place was deserted as both the students and Teachers kept sealed lips, but there was apprehension in the air.
A villager who confirmed the incident to Trumpeta said that it has become a reoccurring scenario where Teachers of the school were usually beaten up for daring to correct any of the students.
All efforts to see the embattled Teacher proved abortive, as sources said he was being hidden away from his attackers who may strike again in the hospital.
When Trumpeta confronted a man said to be the principal of the school, he denied that such a thing happened in the school, adding that even if it did, it was an internal matter which the school authority can handle amicably.
“You want me to tell you my name so that go and write tomorrow? Whatever happened, is an internal business and we shall handle it. In short, nothing happened or did you observe anything?” the male Teacher tasked Trumpeta.
