Ideato South recently went agog following the inauguration of Community Government Council in 23 Autonomous Communities in Ideato LGAs recently, by the Hon Commissioner for Youth and Sports. Comrade Kenneth Emelu. The inauguration which lasted for three days in ldeatoSouth LGA witnessed a massive turn out of people in all the communities. During the exercise, Emelu admonished the traditional rulers and people of Ideato south to create enabling environment that will make the Community Government Council o thrive in Ideato South.
He stressed that the fourth tie government is the only system that will bring government’s Presence to the communities, trigger competition amongst communities and as well foster grass root development. He equally enjoined the civil servants posted to the communities to drive the CGC with passion and never allow themselves to be discouraged by anybody or group of people, noting that the future benefits of CGC are enormous. He added that he is optimistic that in a short while, other
states inNigeria will borrow the fourth tie government because it is system that will give voice to people at the grass root.
One of the traditional rulers who spoke during the inauguration, HRH Eze Gerald Achusim, Eze lhekaibe of Umuisiaku, expressed gratitude to governor Okorocha for this vision which he described as divine, while promising that his cabinet and the entire people of Umuisiaku will do their best to ensure that the purpose of the community government council s realized.
Speaking during the inauguration of CGC at Umuduru Ahurunwa, the former Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Detrude Oduka said that CGC is the kind of government she has longed to see in Nigeria over the years. staling that the benefits of CGC will endure generation because it will touch the lives of people in rural communities.
