Arising from its meeting on Tuesday January 21, 2014, the apex association of Ikeduru sons and daughters “Ikeduru Patriotic Association (IPA)” condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of its son and one time Chairman of Ikeduru Local Government, Hon Brendan Oguine.
In the meeting attended by Traditional Rulers, the Clergy, Chiefs, Captains of Industry and politicians, IPA noted with regrets that some people within the community could sit down to perpetuate such a heinous crime of killing such a man in cold blood.
Describing the action as a “taboo”, the Chairman of Ikeduru Council of Traditional Rulers, His Royal Higness Eze Egemonu (Ebi of Ebikoro) who announced a declaration of the three days mourning for the late Brendan Oguine said that the Royal fathers from the local government will do everything within their powers to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are brought to book.
Also speaking, the president of the Association, Chief Dr Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe stressed the need for the association to further move to ensure that both the state government and the Nigerian police unravel the circumstances and those behind the dastardly act.
According to Chief Ajumbe, “we gathered that the police has made some arrests in connection with the matter but they should ensure a thorough investigation to ensure that all those who are connected with the murder are brought to book”.
Describing the late Chairman as an easy going and team player, Ajumbe regretted that the town will miss his contributions towards the development of Ikeduru.
The president and some executives of the association including Hon Dr Emeka Ukaegbu (Secretary), Hon Gerry Ogu (Publicity Secretary), Hon Frank Nneji, Chidomere and few others later paid a condolence visit to the family at Umuhu, Atta in Ikeduru Local government where they condoled with the wife and the entire family.
