Sequel to the continued legal battle between Imo State Government and members of Town Union on the dissolution of Town Unions in the State, the former President General of Owerre Community Assembly (OCA), Hon Dr Chief Christian Oweaya Anukam has posited that nobody will ever dissolve the popular Owerre Community Assembly.
Speaking with Journalists at his compound located at World Bank last weekend immediately after OCA election which was held at Ugwu Ekwema, Hon Oweaya maintained that his community leaders were duly elected and nobody has right to dissolve the formidable system through which people on the grassroot are governed. “I predicted earlier that the dissolution of the Town Union Executives will not go down well with the grassroot people. That is why I have never joined my counterparts in the court case”, he maintained.
Narrating his role in the just concluded OCA election, the former President General told journalists that he had achieved his aim by ensuring that credible candidates emerge in the new leadership of OCA. Adding that Chief Felix Chidi Ngoka who emerged the newly elected President General of OCA, remains the best choice for Ndi Owerre. “I just stepped two fits gap from the leadership of OCA. This is the right time for me to partner with the leadership of OCA in order to inject more meaningful development in our area. I wonder why Emma Ugorji who is a Government Liaison Officer still wish to aspire for the President General of OCA whereas the present government in Imo State which he works with opposes the existence of Town Unions”, he concluded.
Chief Oweaya thanked Ndi Owerre Nchi ise for voting credible candidates who will pilot the affairs of OCA in the next two years and enjoined them to support the new leadership of OCA.
Meanwhile, after keenly contested the election with three others, Chief Felix Chidi Ngoka emerged the PG of OCA by scorning 226 votes. Chief Ngoka noted that his emergence as the PG of OCA was as a result of past antecedents. He disclosed his readiness to partner with government to cushion any policy that would cause harm to Ndi Owerre Nchi ise.
