Government And Its Stand On Agbaso’s Recent Vindication By EFCC

It is no longer news that the economic and financial crimes commission EFCC recently cleared the former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Sir Jude Agbaso of any complexity in the N458 million bribe scandal that was used as a decoy to impeach him from office by the Imo State House of Assembly.
What has come to be known today as the no guilt verdict on the Emekuku born former Deputy Governor was published by many national dailies, the Guardian 3rd December, vanguard, Daily Independence, Sun Newspaper to mention but a few. Almost all the Owerri based newspapers also carried it on their cover page. Since the day it was made public, the EFCC has not come out to disclaim that it did not actually clear Sir Agbaso.
Following the news of the clearance of Agbaso, many groups have protested the injustice done by the Imo State government and the Imo State House of Assembly against the former No2 citizen of Imo state. Though there are still outstanding cases connecting the bribe scandal and the subsequent impeachment but it must be noted that none was instituted by the state government against Sir Jude Agbaso who they claimed took bribe from a contractor. It is on record that Sir Jude Agbaso in all the cases in court and petition to EFCC have been seeking for justice. That Justice is what EFCC has done after thorough investigation.
The worrying trend now is the dimension the government is taking. The administration of Okoorocha seem to be denying any such clearance published on different national and local media. This approach to so many Imolites is disturbing hence people are believing that the government is trying to play on the sensibilities of Imo people while being unrepentant for the injustice done to an Imo citizen.
Majority of Imolites are not surprise that a government that claimed it did not sign abortion into law but later went back to ask the Imo House of Assembly to repeal same law which the same house claimed it never passed, exposes the government as serial liar and as a government with penchant for speaking from two sides of the mouth.
In this present scenario, the people expect the government to be silent and watch what the outcome of the court cases instituted against the government of Imo State, and Imo House of Assembly by Sir Jude Agbaso challenging his impeachment will be. In the other hand, Imo people expect the government to render an apology to Imolites and the former Deputy Governor and fast track the process of apprehending Mr Dina the JPross MD and Chief Macdonald Akano a director in the company with the aim of recovering the money that belong to Imo people. The governor that approved full payment to a contractor introduced to him by his in-law for a job not yet done should explain to Imo people why he should not be sanctioned for profiteering and corruption. No body is perfect and nobody is above the law. The members of the House must by now be in moral bondage. The right thing must be done and Imo people are tired of being deceived with lies.

Kudos To Mr. President, FMC Owerri

Dear editor, recently President Goodluck Jonathan and the management of Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Owerri have been commended for the massive infrastructural development the medical centre has been witnessing for a while now.
The former Minister of Interior, Captain Emmanuel Iheanacho made this remark during the 2013 General Meeting of the Association of Resident Doctors of FMC Chapter, Owerri, held recently at the Multi-Purpose Hall FMC Owerri.
Delivering a lecture at the event entitled ‘Good Governance; an Indispensable Tool to Improved Health Care Delivery’, the former minister who is the Chairman and Chief Executive of Genesis World-Wide Shipping Company said that Good Governance among other things, is participatory, transparent, accountable, result-oriented, strategic and promotes the rule of law at all levels and every institution.
On improving health system in Nigeria, the Ex Minister had this to say:
‘Improving health system requires reformation and political commitment. In addition, to that, adequate financial and human resources should be put in place… Also, there should collaborative approach to service delivery… There should be increased public-private participation in healthcare delivery and government should also provide information and Communication Technology ICT)…’.
However, the Emekuku-Owerri-born eloquent advocate concluded by saying that it is only a good government at all levels and institutions that can guarantee improved health care in the country.
The lecture witnessed many commendations from various participants in the event.
While thanking the foremost mariner on the lecture which he described as highly inspiring, the out-going president of Association of Resident Doctors of FMC Chapter, Owerri, Dr. Thyword Agu identified the challenges in the health sector in the country to include: lack of health care facilities, incessant strikes by health cworkers, poor remuneration of health workers and unhealthy government policies in the health sector.
The event which was well attended by many doctors and other stakeholders in the governance of the country, also witnessed other presentations from other speakers.
